Culture Is Built in Ordinary Moments

What Happens Next Depends on What You Build.

Helping leaders build cultures that perform under pressure

No Time to Care

From Task-Oriented Survival to Purpose-Driven Nursing

For Healthcare Teams, Bedside Nurses, and Clinical Leaders

A nurse walks out of a room where something devastating just happened, and thirty seconds later, they're expected to be fully present for the next patient, the next task, the next documentation requirement. That's the reality Charles built this keynote around. Drawing on decades at the bedside, Charles explores what happens when caring professionals become task-oriented survivors, and how nurses can reconnect with the purpose that brought them into healthcare in the first place.

No Time to Lead

Culture Built in Ordinary Moments, Revealed in Extraordinary Ones

For Nurse Leaders, Directors & Executive Healthcare Leadership

"I never wanted to become a nurse leader." That's how Charles opens this keynote, and it's a truth many leaders recognize. They stepped into leadership to make a difference, then discovered how easily schedules, meetings, emails, and administrative demands can pull them away from their team. Drawing on his own journey through emergency, ICU, and hospital leadership, Charles shows leaders how to stay present, build trust, and intentionally create the culture their teams experience every day.

Crisis Reveals Culture

What You Build in the Calm Is What You Lead in the Storm

For Leaders Across High-Pressure, People-Centered Industries

A fatal shooting inside Charles's emergency department put his team to a test no one could have anticipated. Nobody had to be told what to do. They already knew, because it had been built into them long before that day. That reality became the foundation for a truth that now shapes everything he teaches: you don't know what kind of culture you have until a crisis reveals it. Through this unforgettable story, Charles shows leaders across all industries why culture isn't created in extraordinary moments. It's revealed by them, and built through the ordinary behaviors leaders reinforce every day.

About Charles Kunkle

Keynote Speaker & Culture Strategist
You don’t know what kind of culture you’ve built until a crisis reveals it.
Charles Kunkle learned that firsthand. A fatal shooting inside the emergency department at St. Mary Medical Center put everything his team had built to the test. Nobody had to be told what to do. They already knew, because the culture had been built into them long before that day. That experience became the foundation for everything Charles now teaches.
With more than thirty years of experience across emergency medicine, ICU, and flight nursing, plus leadership roles spanning primary care, hospital operations, and healthcare technology, Charles brings a rare combination to the stage: the clinical credibility of someone who’s lived it, and the operational fluency of someone who’s led it.

Charles doesn’t teach culture from a textbook. He teaches it from having built it under fire.

In 2016, he wrote No Time to Care, which went on to earn a Silver Medal from the American Journal of Nursing. Three years later, he took the stage in front of roughly ten thousand attendees at the ANCC National Magnet Conference.

He later stepped back from the stage for several years to focus on direct clinical leadership work and is now returning to speak full-time — bringing those years of real-world leadership experience back with him.

Today, Charles brings those experiences to organizations looking for more than another motivational speaker. His work is designed to help leaders understand how culture is built, how it shows up under pressure, and what they can do to intentionally shape it before the moment that tests it arrives.

Charles gives leaders specific actions they can take tomorrow, in the ordinary moments, behaviors, and decisions that shape how a team works together every day.

As he puts it:

“I lived it. I led it. I’m going to show you how to build it.”

His style is story-driven and conversational, with a sense of humor that keeps an audience with him even when the material turns heavy. He’s emotionally intelligent without being soft, grounded in real operational experience rather than theory, and unafraid to tell the truth about what leadership actually costs.

He’s not interested in being another motivational voice in the room. He’s interested in helping leaders build the kind of culture their people don’t want to leave.
